Understanding Metaphor And It’s Types

When you refer to someone in an opposite way just to describe his behavior or attitude then it is called Metaphor. For example if you say he speaks like a chirpy bird then he is not a bird and neither his voice resembles to that bird but you have used that metaphor to describe a specific characteristic. These kind of terms are referred to as metaphor and they have become very common in modern linguistics. Especially modern day writers use these terms a lot to add weight to their writing.

There are different types of metaphor like accidental, intentional, unintentional and others. Every type of metaphor has its own purpose and people use these types accordingly.

Metaphor is not only used in common speech but it has a wide application in literature. People always use terms like clear skies, boiling mad, insane speed and similar others just to make their statement more concrete. Similarly, there are writers who integrate these kinds of terms to make their writing more interesting and meaningful.

There are poets that specifically do metaphor poetry and they extensively use these terms in their poetry. There are no fixed terms but anyone can create interesting types of Metaphor. It is all about describing an event or behavior in your own words and relates that event to a more common event.

In movie scripts, drama scripts and other similar writings metaphor can really create magic. It just makes the entire sentence more catchy and interesting. If you carefully analyze the modern day film scripts, you will come to know that modern writers are using metaphor as an element of wit. If you are a writer then you should properly understand the meaning of metaphor and use these terms in your writing to make it more interesting and catchy.
