Metaphor is a very difficult to
learn literary technique. Very few writers have mastered this techniques but
once you learn this technique, your writing becomes more expressive, more
vibrant and more interesting for the readers. Basically in metaphor, two opposite
words are used for a person or entity to describe the comparison. For example
when you say he runs like a tiger now the person you are talking about is not a
tiger but you are comparing him just to express his running quality. This is a
very interesting way and readers enjoy reading metaphor a lot. There are no
specific metaphoric words that you have to use but it all depends upon your own
creativity. You just need a big vocabulary to make it work for you in a better
way because without vocabulary, your metaphor will not sound perfect and
readers may not enjoy your writing.
The best way to use metaphor is to think on all
possible opposite words and then use these terms and words in sentences. When
you are writing a literary piece, you have to be careful with every sentence
because readers will note every small detail of your writing. If you start
making stupid and meaningless metaphor, your readers will not value and rank
your work but if you use some good and expressive metaphors, readers will enjoy
your work a lot. You can consult professional writers for learning to use
metaphor and especially if you are a poet, metaphor can be a very important
ingredient of poetry. There are poets that take metaphor as base and they do
all of their poetry accordingly. This makes the poetry very interesting, deep
and expressive. The beauty of metaphor is that you do not
have to explain anything to the readers and they will understand the meaning
automatically.
